Neurodiversity Training
What is Neurodiversity Training?
Neurodiversity training is a collaborative, affirming support process designed to help neurodivergent people recognise their strengths, understand their differences, and thrive in a world often built for neurotypical ways of thinking. The relationship between trainer and participant is grounded in mutual respect, shared understanding, and partnership. It is not about changing who you are, but about exploring personalised strategies to navigate daily life, meet your goals, and reduce barriers to participation and wellbeing.
This work often draws on elements of executive functioning coaching, cognitive-behavioural tools, environmental modification, and values-based planning. It is shaped by current research in motivation, self-regulation, habit formation, sensory integration, and identity development. We use frameworks that are effective in enhancing wellbeing, confidence, and quality of life. Training may focus on specific areas—like preparing for job interviews or navigating social situations or take a broader approach to life balance, identity, and self-acceptance.
What Can Training Help With?

• Making and maintaining friendships
• Understanding your sensory profile and sensory regulation
• Masking, unmasking, and navigating safe self-expression
• Understanding and embracing stimming and movement needs
• Restlessness, fidgeting, and energy regulation
• Memory support, planning, and goal setting
• Transitioning into new environments or routines
• Managing rejection sensitivity and overwhelm
• Maintaining healthy sleep, eating, and movement routines
• Managing time, commitments, and the mental load of life
• Understanding emotional regulation and body budgeting
• Building confidence, motivation, and self-worth
Other areas include:
• Exploring neurodivergent identity, strengths, and values
• Enhancing communication and connection
• Understanding triggers, needs, and emotional cues
• Psychoeducation about neurodivergence and how it impacts life
• Developing life hacks and executive functioning tools
• Navigating intimate relationships and building deeper connection
• Thriving at work and making your neurodivergence work for you
• Understanding and preventing neurodivergent burnout
• Balancing parenting, work, relationships, and self-care
• Making peace with perfectionism and internalised ableism
• Letting go of unrealistic expectations and self-doubt
• Developing a deeper understanding of your internal world
What Might the Trainer Ask You?
• What changes do you want to make in your everyday life?
• How does your sensory world affect your routines and energy?
• What are your values and goals, and what matters most to you?
• What motivates you, and how can we build momentum?
• What barriers have you already overcome, and what’s next?
• What does success look like for you, and how will you know when you’re getting there?
• What support or adjustments might help you feel more in control?
What Skills Will I Learn?
Neurodiversity-affirming training helps you explore and implement strategies that work for your brain, not someone else’s expectations. You will learn how to use strengths-based, practical tools that support your way of thinking, sensing, relating, and functioning. The focus is always on self-understanding, autonomy, and meaningful outcomes.
You’ll build skills in:
• Self-advocacy and neurodivergent identity development
• Creating sustainable systems and routines
• Time and energy management tools (like time blocking or habit stacking)
• Sensory and emotional regulation strategies
• Strengths-based goal setting
• Developing confidence in your unique communication and learning style
Neurodiversity training is not about fixing or changing who you are. It’s about working with your brain, not against it and creating a life that fits you, not the other way around.
